Sawtooth Jewelry Studio is an artist-owned, open workshop, that provides a professionally equipped studio for jewelry designers of all skill levels. Through offering classes and hourly bench rentals, we seek to build a local, creative community in the metal arts. We believe that an open, accessible studio provides students with the ability to practice and master the skills taught in our classes, without the financial burden of outfitting their own workshop. The camaraderie and idea sharing that occurs in a shared studio environment benefits everyone involved, at all skill levels. My intent is to share the joy of making with others, and help them build a vocabulary of skills to materialize their own ideas in metal.
Sawtooth Jewelry Studio was founded in 2015, to provide a work space for aspiring designers, and a professional studio and classroom for owner and instructor Maria Levin. In 2017, Sawtooth expanded to offer full service retail and jewelry repair to Troy and the community.
Meet the Team
Maria Levin, Owner, Instructor, Designer
As a jeweler, sewer and maker, I’ve always enjoyed meticulous craft. I love the attention to detail required for each step of the process, and how steps must be carefully executed in a logical order to form a finished, polished object.
“That is at the heart, I think, of mastery, just loving the process.” Sarah Lewis, TED Talk.
When I’m not in the studio, I’m the activities director, chef and head mama in charge of my sweet little family. Skiing, camping, swimming, hiking, skating- we live in the woods and love the outdoors!
Christine Robinson, Bench Jeweler
Christine joined Sawtooth in 2017 as a bench jeweler, doing repairs, custom design, and stocking our retail cases with her handmade jewelry.
Laurie Maimone, Studio Assistant
Laurie is a retired high school art teacher, reinventing the second phase of her artistic career. She staffs open studio once a week, and helps with general studio maintenance.
